The Gundam Epyon. It is questionably the strongest of the Gundams built during the Wing series. It boasts an incredibly powerful generator system that directly feeds its beam sword, an strong heat rod, and features a second mode for flight that conserves energy use. Equipped with a variation of the Wing Zero's cockpit system, it destroys all of the pilot's fears to make him the ultimate warrior. The perfect weapon in every way but one, the Epyon has only one thing that could be called a flaw, it features no long range weapons.
Epyon was built with Trieze's vast fortune amassed during his leadership of OZ, using the plans of the abandoned Wing Gundam and Tallgeese found by Zechs. Trieze deemed himself unworthy to pilot the Epyon and eventually gave the Epyon to the Gundam Pilot Heero Yuy. Heero claimed the Epyon was evil, in the same way that Wing Zero was evil, but used it to defend the Sanc Kingdom.
During a violent duel with Zechs, both were thrown from their Mobile Suits, and Heero took the Wing Zero from Zechs. Taking the abandoned Epyon, Zechs and Heero would continue to clash throughout the war, ending in the final defeat of Zechs and his ultimate sacrifice. Thrusting the Epyon's beam saber into the segment core of Space Station Libra, Zechs destroyed it before it struck Earth.
Created by Trieze Kushrenada, the Epyon is his ideal of a true warrior. It is designed to duel in keeping with his personal views on honor. The codes of honor that relate to the Epyon include:
- Combat is Glory. To win glory for thy name and the name of those in whose service thou art is all in Battle.
- Thy Sword is thy Honor and they Glory. Treat with others in combat with weapons of equal strength.
- Use not the weapons of distance in any honorable combat or duel, nor use them against aught other than the beasts of the forest and field.
- Killing a defeated opponent is not honoring life or that which gave it. Those who yield are bound by oath and honor.
- To live by the sword is to die by the sword..
- Meet Death in any form without fear to protect thee from dishonor.
The Epyon is therefore, the way of the true warrior.
